What I Think About Twitter…

As I am just starting to use and explore Twitter I think it is something I could use to keep me updated on things I am interested in. It is kind of like Facebook and Instagram which I already use. I use Facebook and Instagram as personal accounts. With Twitter on the other hand I am learning how to use it as a professional learning network (PLN). I have used Twitter before and did not like it so I deleted my account, but when I took EDTC 300 course at the University of Regina I had to re-download Twitter and make an account. At first, I was not a huge fan of the idea and to be frank I still am not.

I am not a huge fan of only having so many words on a post. It is very limited and I want to explain and get my point out there. Other than having limited words on a tweet I do not mind using Twitter in a professional development way. I like how I can interact with my peers using #EDTC300 and finding out helpful resources people have found. I also like how I can find almost anything and everything on Twitter. I am starting to get used to using it like Facebook. Even though I would still much rather use Facebook.

Every Thursday at 8PM a SaskEdChat happens. I got to be a part of this SaskEdChat on Thursday, May 12, 2022. During a SaskEdChat someone asks a series of questions for one hour and many educators and others join in on this chat from all over the world. For the first chat I did not speak up much, but I mostly just read the comments and took it all in for the first time. It was a really good experience and I am looking forward to doing it again.

Starting off my Knitting Process

I am starting to make a dishcloth. Using the video above I decided to start off with something easy to get the hang of things. At first, I watched the intro of the video to see what I needed. So, I headed over to our local Michaels store and bought knitting needles and yarn. One thing I did not know what that there are different sizes of knitting needles and yarn. There are different sizes to make different things. I went into the store and found the 4 1/2 needles and looked for another five minutes to find the corresponding yarn.

Once I bought the supplies I headed home to start my project. To start off the process I learned how to make a slip knot (0.59) and from there I could start my dishcloth. Then I learned how to cast on (1.28) and this step took me about ten times before finally getting it right. With this process, it was very tricky to start because I am trying to learn something new that my brain does not know and my hands have yet to figure out where they belong. Finally, once I got the hang of it I just need to work on making it bigger. I started off by casting on four stitches and from there I had to work my way up by adding stitches so I end up with 37 stitches on the knitting needle. After getting four stitches I can now start knitting. I use a basic knit stitch (2.59) to get to seven stitches. At this point I am starting to get the hang of it, so it should go a lot smoother I am hoping.

The one thing that I am afraid of is if I accidentally lose all the stitches that are on my needle and then I mess it all up. Stick with me in my journey, and check back in with me once I have reached 37 stitches!

See you soon!

Welcome to my Learning Project

For my learning project, I have decided to learn about knitting. To give you a little bit of history my great-grandmother and mom have/are knitting. I want to keep it going in the family and it is one of those things that not many people in our generation do much anymore.

I crocheted a scarf which I gave my best friend as a Christmas present. I made a queen-sized hand blanket, and I am also slowly working on a cross-stitch project. All these things have given me a sense of calmness when stressing out about school or everyday life. I have been wanting to learn how to knit, but I just never have found the time to do it ever. This learning project has given me that excuse to get up off the couch and go to Michaels to get supplies. From there I can start my project.

I am unsure of what I am going to make yet, but I think I am going to call my mom and see what I should do. Or I might look at Michales to see if they have a kit that I could try to do. I am very excited to start this learning project and I hope you are as excited to follow along with me.

Staring off my Journey I know nothing about knitting other than it has to knitting needles rather than like crocheting. I have also heard that it is similar to crocheting, but a little more complicated as it needs a little more focus on what to do. I do know that you can make next to anything when knitting. I am very excited to start my journey.
