“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn.” – Ben Franklin
The quote above really speaks to my knowledge. As a student I could sit in a lecture classroom about a class I do not really care about and listen to the professor, but I would not comprehend anything. If I was active in class and using hands-on skills and doing assignments to engage me in the course content then I would remember. For example, when I go to my field experiences, I take in everything I have learned there and I will never forget it. As I know many students can relate to this quote, it is important for us teachers to involve our kids in our teachings.
“Good teachers put snags in the river of children passing by, and over time, they redirect hundreds of lives. There is an innocence that conspires to hold humanity together, and it is made up of people who can never fully know the good they have done.” – Kidder
I got this quote from my EPE 310 class and wanted to share it. It tells me that teachers put a dent in children’s lives. As a teacher, I will help them learn and grow as a person. Even through the tough things, students learn in the classroom. In my teaching philosophy, I mention how relationships are important to me and I think this quote helps transcribe my feelings toward relationships. I want to make a difference in their lives and create that relationship where they could always come back to me no matter where they are in their lives.
